Quick answer

GoHighLevel connects the official WhatsApp Business Platform natively, under Settings > WhatsApp in each sub-account. You can add a new number, migrate from another provider or keep using the WhatsApp Business app on the same number (coexistence). The integration costs US$ 10 per month per sub-account, plus Meta's per-message rates, which depend on the recipient's country. Since October 1, 2026, service messages are billed after the first 1,000 per phone number each month.

In most of the world outside the United States, customers don’t fill out forms or wait for email. They send a WhatsApp message. If your CRM can’t handle WhatsApp properly, half of your sales conversations happen somewhere your pipeline can’t see.

This guide explains how WhatsApp works inside GoHighLevel: the three ways to connect a number, what coexistence with the WhatsApp Business app means, the Meta rules that trip up beginners, and what it actually costs per month and per message in different countries. Everything was checked against HighLevel’s and Meta’s official pages on October 25, 2026.

How WhatsApp works inside GoHighLevel

The integration is native and uses Meta’s official WhatsApp Business Platform (the API), not a WhatsApp Web workaround or a third-party connector. In practice:

  • Conversations land in the CRM inbox next to email, SMS, Instagram and Facebook, tied to the contact record and the pipeline stage.
  • Workflows can send WhatsApp messages. A form submission can trigger a welcome message, create a task for a salesperson and send a reminder the day before a meeting.
  • Your whole team answers from one number, each person with their own login.

WhatsApp is enabled per sub-account. A sub-account is one business or one client of your agency, and each has its own number and its own monthly integration fee.

Three ways to connect a number

Setup lives under Settings > WhatsApp in the sub-account.

OptionBest forWhat you need
Coexistence (connect the WhatsApp Business app)You already sell through the app and want to keep using your phoneAn updated WhatsApp Business app and the number in use
New WhatsApp Business accountA new number, or one not active in any appThe business’s Facebook login and a one-time code by SMS or call
Migrate from another provider (BSP)Your number already uses the API through another companyAccess to your Meta business assets and a verification code

Coexistence is the usual choice for small businesses. You enter the number, confirm details and scan a QR code from the app. HighLevel imports contacts and up to six months of chats. The limits: one number per connection, templates can only be sent from the CRM, and the WhatsApp profile is still edited in the app. Coexistence is not available for numbers from Nigeria or South Africa.

A new account walks you through Facebook login, choosing or creating a business portfolio and WhatsApp Business Account, and verifying the number by code. If the number is already in the app and you don’t want coexistence, HighLevel’s FAQ says you must delete the app account first, and Meta does not move old chats, so back them up.

Migration keeps the same number and moves it from your current provider.

Meta’s rules you need to know

The 24-hour window. When a customer messages you, a 24-hour customer service window opens and resets with each new message from them. Inside it you can reply freely. Outside it you can only send Meta-approved templates in three categories: marketing, utility (order updates, reminders) and authentication (login codes).

Templates are reviewed. Meta can reject a template that starts or ends with a variable, asks for sensitive data or duplicates an existing one. Approved templates get a quality rating, and low-quality templates can be paused.

Messaging limits apply to the whole business portfolio:

TierBusiness-initiated limit per 24 hoursHow to get there
Start250Default for new portfolios
22,000Verify your business with Meta, or send 2,000 high-quality messages outside the window in 30 days
3 to 510,000, 100,000, unlimitedAutomatic, with good quality and at least half your limit used within 7 days

If you plan campaigns to your whole list, start Meta business verification early.

What it costs: integration plus Meta rates

There are two separate charges. HighLevel charges the agency US$ 10 per month per WhatsApp-enabled sub-account. Meta charges per delivered message, by category and by the recipient’s country. HighLevel passes those rates on and says a 5% Stripe fee is added.

Rates from HighLevel’s official table (updated September 22, 2026), in US dollars per message:

Recipient marketMarketingUtility
Brazil0.06560.0071
Spain0.07420.0210
Mexico0.0320*0.0089
Colombia0.01310.0008
Argentina0.06490.0273
Chile0.09330.0210
Peru0.07380.0210*
Rest of Latin America0.07770.0119

*Meta lists a rate increase on October 1, 2026 for Mexico marketing and for Peru utility and authentication. Check Meta’s current rate card before budgeting for those markets.

Your local currency doesn’t change the price: HighLevel bills in US dollars on your card, so your bank’s exchange rate and any foreign transaction fee apply on top.

What changed on October 1, 2026

  1. Service messages (free-form replies inside the 24-hour window) are billed per message again, at the same rate as utility messages in that market. HighLevel says the first 1,000 per phone number each month stay free.
  2. Utility messages sent inside an open window, such as an order confirmation right after the customer wrote, are now billed too.

Still free: conversations that start from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad, for 72 hours.

For most small businesses the bill stays small. Utility and service messages cost around a cent or less in most of these markets. Marketing is what adds up: 1,000 marketing messages to Brazilian numbers cost about US$ 65.60 in Meta rates before the 5% fee.

Rebilling clients

Agencies can set up rebilling in Agency View under Settings > Reselling > Subscription > WhatsApp: a client price for the subscription and a usage multiplier from 1x to 10x. The default is 1.05x, which covers the Stripe fee.

A practical setup plan

  1. Start a trial. The standard trial is 14 days; the official Bootcamp gives 30 days, as explained in the 30-day free trial guide. Both ask for a card, and the plan is billed only after the trial.
  2. Pick the connection path. Coexistence if your team already uses the WhatsApp Business app; a new number if you’re starting fresh.
  3. Verify your business with Meta to get past the 250 limit.
  4. Create three basic templates: welcome, appointment reminder and follow-up for leads who went quiet.
  5. Build one workflow: form or ad → welcome message → task for the salesperson → reminder a day before.
  6. Watch the wallet in week one to learn your real messaging spend.

Pros and cons

What works well

  • Official Meta integration, no middleman tool.
  • Coexistence keeps the phone app and the CRM on the same number.
  • Inbox, pipeline, calendar and automations in one place.
  • Low integration fee, with Meta rates passed through plus the Stripe fee.

What needs attention

  • Billing in US dollars, so exchange rates and card fees apply.
  • Meta’s rules: 24-hour window, template approval and starting limits.
  • Service messages above 1,000 per number each month now cost money.
  • Coexistence supports one number and doesn’t send templates from the app.
  • Marketing messages to US numbers are paused.

Verdict

If your customers live on WhatsApp, GoHighLevel’s native integration is one of the strongest reasons to use the platform: US$ 10 per month per sub-account, official Meta rates and everything wired into the CRM. Your real cost depends on how much marketing you send; reminders and support replies stay cheap. For the full picture of what the platform replaces, read the complete GoHighLevel guide.

The safest way to decide is to connect a number during the trial, send real messages and check the wallet before the first bill.

Frequently asked questions

How much does WhatsApp cost in GoHighLevel?

HighLevel charges the agency US$ 10 per month for each sub-account with WhatsApp enabled. Messages are billed separately at Meta's rates, which depend on the message category and the recipient's country. HighLevel says a 5% Stripe fee is added to those rates.

Can I keep using the WhatsApp Business app on my phone?

Yes, through coexistence. You connect the number you already use in the WhatsApp Business app, keep the app working and import contacts plus up to six months of chat history. Limits: one number per connection, template messages can only be sent from the CRM, and the profile is still managed in the app.

Are WhatsApp service messages still free?

Not entirely. Since October 1, 2026, Meta charges service messages at the same rate as utility messages in each market. HighLevel says the first 1,000 service messages per phone number each month remain free. Conversations started from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad stay free for 72 hours.

How many WhatsApp messages can I send per day?

Meta sets the limit at the business portfolio level. New portfolios start at 250 business-initiated conversations in a rolling 24 hours. Business verification raises it to 2,000, and Meta then scales it automatically to 10,000, 100,000 and unlimited based on quality and volume. Replies to customers who message you first are not capped.

Can I send WhatsApp marketing messages to US numbers?

No. HighLevel's help center says WhatsApp marketing messages to US phone numbers have been paused since April 1, 2025. For US contacts, plan marketing through SMS and email instead.
